APICS - The Association for Operations Management is the global leader and premier source of the body of knowledge in operations management and supply chain management. APICS offers a full range of education programs and materials, developed under the direction of management experts. Since 1957, individuals and companies have relied on APICS for its superior training, international wide certifications, comprehensive resources, and worldwide network of accomplished industry professionals. APICS has nearly 65,000 individual and corporate members in about 20,000 companies worldwide. More than 80,000 professionals achieved APICS designations of CPIM, CIRM & CSCP, which are well recognized among the professional peers.
In 2005, based on our cooperation with APICS, ASCMS successfully introduced APICS certification programs to China with a strong instructor base, international management experience, and local manufacturing practice. It altered the status of no APICS exam in China. Previously, the candidates who wanted to obtain APICS designations had to go overseas, like US, Singapore and Korea etc, for exams.
There was a lack of the official education in supply chain management and operations management at that time. Before the end of 2003, there was only about 23-26 CPIM certified professionals among the high level managerial group, and CPIM meant super recognition and skyscraping salary.
Along with the rapid growth of Chinese manufacturing, scarcity of well-educated professionals became more and more critical. Management evolution calls for scientific，systematic and technical knowledge. The managerial experience “learnt by doing” was challenged by fast-changing environment and strong competition. On the other side, professional certificates turn to be the hard attestation of competency in promotions and career development.
Imposed by the demand， APICS’ certification programs has thrived in China. By providing education and exam service in 4 major cities of China, Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen and Hong Kong, ASCMS facilitates the channel of learning and CPIM CSCP certificate obtaining. It inspires the passion of the professional peers. In two years, more than 3000 candidates took APICS certification exams. Among them, about 300 CPIM and 30 CSCP were certified in China, by Dec of 2008. |

The most of the pioneers who pursued CPIM certificates were from multi-country companies, including manufacturing and ERP consulting. They are aware of APICS well and have good English skill. In 2006, there was a remarkable trend that some Chinese local companies realized the value of APICS certification. Some ERP providers even took in-house training and encouraged their team to be certified. As the result, these ERP professionals enhanced their competency and brought up the credibility. Other Chinese local manufactures also used APICS Body of knowledge to train the team, to improve their management level towards the word-class.
