US SCM Guru Mr. Tom Wallace paid his debut visit to China for
Executive Topical Seminars
In the 21st century, companies no longer compete, supply chains do. How to optimize the
supply chain and create a strategic advantage that supports the goals and
objectives of the enterprises becomes the number one task of senior executives.
In the mid of November, 2007, invited by ASCMS (the sole officially authorized
institution and partner by APICS) and Kingdee, Mr.
Tom Wallace made his debut visit to China - the world’s manufacturing center –
for Executive Topical Seminars in Shanghai and Shenzhen.

|
Tom Wallace is a writer and educator
specializing in Sales & Operations Planning, Demand Management and Resources
Planning. Tom (with Bob) have authored the demand and supply series of books
which helps executives and managers acquire superior processes for
decision-making and tools that are essential in a complex, rapidly changing
environment. The series includes Sales & Operations Planning: the Executive’s
Guide, Building to Customer Demand, Master Scheduling in the 21st
Century and etc. This series books are respected as the reference books of CPIM
certification program of APICS – Association of Operation Management.
|
|
The topics – “Building to Customer Demand” and
“Executive Sales & Operations Planning” attracted over 80 top
executives from China, HK, TW and Japan. They came from big
multinational companies like ALCOA, BASF, Tyco, Wrigley, Mobil,
Motorola, Philips and etc. Ms. Yang ZengXing – GM of Karlmayer
(the biggest producer of textile mechanical equipment) China
Production Base, Ms.Gianpietro Belotti – GM of Santoni Knitting,
Mr. Fan Jinsong – Deputy GM of Shenzhen Dazu Laser Technology
Co., Ltd. attended the seminars also.

In nowadays complex, rapidly-changing
environment, the fluctuation in the market poses great challenge
to production and supply management. To solve the problem of
imbalance of demand and supply and guarantee low inventory, fast
delivery and good quality, it is necessary to renovate the
overall operational strategy. Based on the concept of
postponement, we may find where we are in the speed/simplicity
matrix and utilize a series of tools for postponement like Lean
Manufacturing, Modular Product Design, Sales & Operations
Planning, 2-level master scheduling and etc. to make it happen
and to enhance the core competency
of the company.

As to the Sales and Operations
Planning, Tom mentioned that American companies start to use tools as MRP, MPS,
TQM, TPM and etc. from 1960’s
and 1970’s
and by the end of 1990’s
they find that they need higher level executives’ involvement in planning to
balance demand and supply; therefore Sales and Operations Planning was developed
and became the weapon of the companies, especially those multinational
enterprises to balance demand and supply which turn out to be the key to make
profit.
Participants deemed these 2 seminars as a great opportunity of
new knowledge and experiences’ sharing; many of them expressed their eagerness
to make use of it in their daily works. After the seminars, they did networking,
took photos with Tom, and even made appointment for the next time...
